Welcome to ARTS

A dedicated NGO committed to transforming and uplifting rural communities through innovative technologies and comprehensive support services.

The Story

In 1993, amidst the hills and valleys of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, a region marked by poverty and the struggles of Scheduled Tribes, Action in Rural Technology and Service (ARTS) was born. The founders recognized the urgent need for change in this remote, underdeveloped area, where basic necessities were scarce and traditional livelihoods were under constant threat.

The Beginning

Srikakulam is a home to thousands of tribal families whose daily lives were shaped by the challenges of limited resources, poor infrastructure, and social exclusion. ARTS emerged as a response to these hardships, with a vision to transform the region through innovative, community-driven solutions. The organization’s goal was simple yet powerful: to help these communities discover their own strengths and build a foundation for sustainable development.

Building Community Strength

  • Collaborating with local leaders to understand their unique needs.
  • Implemented sustainable agricultural practices, watershed management, and natural resource conservation programs.
  • Address education, women’s empowerment, and health, tackling root causes of poverty.

Innovation for Sustainability

  • ARTS emphasized long-term sustainability by introducing techniques like Slope Agriculture Land Technologies (SALT) to enhance crop yields and soil conservation.
  • They established Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to help small farmers access larger markets and secure fair prices for their produce.

Championing Women's Leadership

  • A significant achievement was empowering tribal women through self-help groups (SHGs) and economic initiatives.
  • These women, many becoming first-time entrepreneurs, now lead community changes, advocating for improved education, healthcare, and future opportunities.
